Obviously, they will not reveal scoop or provide details , only confirmations or very general phrases . Nevertheless, it's worth it to list their info , I added wherever relevant links to my folders for more information on the subject.
The crawl and indexing
Choose a simple and crawlable URL format , do not hide links in JavaScript or Flash (note: one wonders if they say that because they do not know the crawler or because they fear that it serves to spam) .
Bing respects the robots.txt protocol , go to robotstxt.org if you have any doubts about the guidelines to be used .
Bing handles HTML5 and noted that its adoption is still very small - but growing.
Bing recalls the need to invest in a version of your site adapted to mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) .
The criteria on- site (on-seo) (which concern the whole site )
Pay attention to duplicate content on your site , if necessary, to "clean" , use 301 redirects and if this is not possible, use the rel = canonical tag . It's the same thing for Google Matt Cutts recommends the 301 rather than the canonical .
About redirects, Bing said that by default, developers often make a 302 ( temporary) thinking it is a 301 (permanent) . Obviously, it is better to actually a 301 ( check it with my tool ), but Bing claims to know to handle the situation and perform a 302 redirect as if it was a 301. For my part , I am skeptical and always recommend to a (single ) 301.
If you need to change the domain name, do not forget that Bing Webmaster Tools includes a section to prevent your engine change. Google offers the same thing, as I describe in my complete file " How to change domain name without losing SEO" .
If your site is in several countries , whether on one or more domain names, do not forget to set the geographic targeting to Bing. You can specify the target with great precision to a specific page .
The on- page criteria ( concerning each page)
The title tag is " still " important , do not forget to fill out ( she must match the content of the page) if Bing is trying to invent one , which is not always ideal.
The meta description tag is " still " useful, it must be relevant and used to prompt the user to click ( when he sees your site in the results) . As for the title , do not leave empty description , if Bing will create it (taking parts of sentences in the content of the page) and it is not always ideal .
The criteria for off- Site (off-seo)
Backlinks are " still " useful, they should always be natural and relevant. Bing warned that their algorithm is able to identify those who want to cheat ( "we can still spot a mile away shortcuts " ) , yet it does not seem to be at an equivalent of the Bing algorithm Penguin Google , especially fighting against dummy backlinks ( artificial) .
On outgoing links ( on your website) , Bing said that as usual, you are responsible for links you do so much to choose which you point .
Social networks are " still " and can have a significant impact on your positioning Bing ( " what happens socially can impact your rankings " ) . Bing said that simple Likes or Retweets will not boost rankings . It's the same thing for Google , especially with Google+ that has a real impact on SEO Google.
Conclusion
For this post, Bing he seeks to show that their algorithm is as complete as that of Google? In any case , the regulars will have learned nothing , or almost. For others, it may be a good summary of SEO on Bing.
